Career Opportunities for High School Students

CTE Central Programs 2022-2023

CAVIAT Central Programs are enhanced CTE programs of study that are offered at post-secondary institutions, industry and/or CAVIAT owned facilities. These central programs may or may not follow a typical high school schedule. These programs allow students the ability to earn industry certification, college credit and internship opportunities.

Assisted Living Facility Caregiver

The certified caregiver certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry level healthcare positions in assisted living facilities. Students completing this program will be prepared to take the knowledge examination for certification by the Arizona Board of Nursing’s Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers (NCIA/ ALFM).

This program is taught in partnership with Coconino Community College.

Automotive Technologies

This program is designed for individuals who have the ability and aptitude to become a skilled automotive technician. Students gain competencies in a variety of automotive systems which enables them to diagnose and perform corrective procedures accurately.

This program is taught in partnership with Coconino Community College and the Findlay Auto Group.

Business

The Business program is designed to prepare students to enter the business profession, at an entry level, with pathways in general business, accounting, and business management. Enrolled students will gain general knowledge and skills tailored to their area of interest.

Two to four semester program open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Taught on the Coconino Community College Campus, Flagstaff, Arizona.

Online or Virtual Learning Modalities (eg ZOOM, Canvas) course options are available for students who live outside of the Flagstaff area.

This program is taught in partnership with Coconino Community College.

Computer Information Systems

This one year program prepares students for an entry level position in the Information Technology or Computer Support fields. Students will obtain theoretical and hands on knowledge and experience in computer hardware and software, operating systems, and programming.

Two semester program open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Taught on the Coconino Community College Campus, Flagstaff, Arizona.

Online or Virtual Learning Modalities (eg ZOOM, Canvas) course options are available for students who live outside of the Flagstaff area.

Construction Technology

The Construction Technology program provides students with a technical foundation required to compete in today’s construction fi eld. Students will be instructed through master learning components and fi eld study workshops arranged with local contractors.

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions requiring basic childcare skills. The courses below combined with the observational time accumulated in an outside workplace environment will qualify a student to test for the Child Development Associate certification.

Emergency Medical Service

As a first responder, you’ll be one of the first people to arrive and provide medical care at emergency incidents. Topics covered are patient assessment, CPR review, airway, shock, would management, full body mobilization, and initial treatment for other medical emergencies. This program prepares students to pathway into an EMT or other related health career.

This program is taught in partnership with Coconino Community College.

Environmental Technology Alternative Energy Technician

The Alternative Energy Technician program will provide students with the skills to pursue a career in the alternative energy and green careers. The student will be instructed through mastery learning conditions and field study workshops arranged with local contractors.

Hospitality Management

The introduction and intermediate certificate programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in various hotel and restaurant business environments. The students will receive training in fundamental computer skills and hotel and restaurant practices, giving them an understanding of the varied responsibilities and skills necessary for employment in entry-level hotel and restaurant support positions. Upon CCC certificate completion students are eligible to participate in CCC graduation.

Law, Public Safety & Security

Students will understand the structure of the criminal justice system and the functions of its main constituents: official agencies, citizens, and their elected representative; acquire the major communication skills required of most criminal justice practitioners including the development of effective written and oral communications consistent with the criminal justice field.

This program is taught in partnership with Coconino Community College.

Medical Assistant

This two year certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as Medical Assistants in medical office businesses. The students will receive training in numerous areas, giving them an understanding of the varied responsibilities and skills necessary for employment.

Students completing the certificate are eligible to take the American Medical Technologist (AMT) certification exam to become a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

This program is taught in partnership with Coconino Community College.

Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant program prepares students to work in the health care industry in places such as: hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, assisted care facilities, and home health care. This program is designed for students seeking an introduction to nursing assisting and the basic skills required for computations, documenting, team collaboration, communication, and client advocacy in the health care setting. Prepares students for entry level employment in acute care, long term care, and assisted living settings.

Two semester program for high school seniors only. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the State Certification exam at the end of the second semester.

Pre-Health Careers

The Pre-Health Careers program assists students in completing the prerequisites to qualify for the nursing program at the Coconino Community College and other Arizona community colleges currently offering a nursing program, or to seek opportunities within Emergency Medical Services and some Allied Health fields. This Program of Study achieves the perquisites and some of the co-requisites required by the Coconino Community College prior to applying to their school of nursing.

Two year program open to high school juniors and seniors. Taught on the Coconino Community College Campus, Flagstaff, Arizona.
